Barefoot Todd after Rock n Roll Arizona

Running Barefoot Workshop – Huntington Beach, Ca

Hello Everyone!

Well, it is about time that I weigh in here and introduce myself!

I am Barefoot Todd!  I will be your host for the Running Barefoot Workshop in Huntington Beach CA on Sunday, the 20th of June!

Before going much further, first I trust I am sending this intro note out in the proper forum.  As y’all know, Barefoot Ken Bob (BKB) is the technical guru behind all of the maintaining and moderating various Running Barefoot web sites, and he has been helping me with mine.  This is my first sincere attempt at trying to communicate with “The Group”, so please bear with me!

I also try to keep up with all the blogs and questions, but if I am remiss, please help me catch up!

As you know, Barefoot Ken Bob is in the midst of  his 2010 Summer Tour.  Check out where in the world BKB is at www.barefootkenbob.com!  So I will be with all of you here in Huntington Beach!!

So, a little about me —

I have been running with Barefoot Ken Bob since 2001.  In fact, BKB is the person who got me interested in running sans footwear and I am in many of the photos on his site (Yep, I know you were all wondering who the HANDSOME one was!!)

Since that time, I have been working on making my barefooted running technique the best I can — and I am still learning!  With BKB’s tutelage and assistance, we have run many-a-mile together as we both become even more attuned to the techniques and benefits of barefoot athletics.

I have often been referred to as “the Other Barefooter” during events in which I participate with Ken Bob because I am often running in his shadow (which is OK — with all of his knowledge and experience he casts a pretty big one!).

But I have some credentials too:  To date, I have completed 86 out of 267 total marathons (yes, the 26.2 mile kind!) without shoes.  I have also completed scores of other events plus trained 100’s of other athletes — both shod and unshod.

Like I stated above, though, we ALL still have something to learn!

And whenever you ask something I do not know I will either make up or, more than likely, help to find the resources for us to learn the answer together.

So come on out to the “Barefoot TODD’s Running Barefoot Workshop” in Huntington Beach, CA on Sunday, 20Jun2010 from 9:00am – 11:00am (details below) and we will find out what we can all discover about our chosen interest together.  Further details are on this site!

I am excited that people are signing up for the Workshop on this site so I know I will be there and we will all learn even more about barefootin’!!

Til the 20th of June —

Running Barefoot Workshop

The bottom line is the soles of our feet. If our soles hurt while walking or running barefoot, we are not moving the way we are designed to move!

If we wear earplugs while trying to learn to sing, rather than helping us improve our singing, the earplugs simply allow us to be unaware of when we are singing badly.

Our own bare soles are the two best coaches in the world, IF we are willing to listen. Bare our soles to the ground, and through the immediate, emphatic, and precise feedback, we can learn so much more about How to Run gently, than we ever dreamed possible.

And equally as important, when we are Beginning our barefoot adventure, our bare soles will try to tell us how much is too much, too soon, before we seriously injure ourselves

Barefoot Todd’s Running Barefoot Workshops are NOT about senselessly pounding out the miles. Running Barefoot is about taking advantage of the complex network of nerve endings (senses) in the soles of our feet, so that we can learn to run better, more gently, efficiently, naturally – not by toughening up to endure the pain, rather by responding to pain by changing the way we run so as not to cause the pain in the first place.

Report, if any, will be posted after the event.

Footwear for Barefoot Todd’s Running Barefoot Workshops and Fun Runs

Footwear is optional. However, wearing footwear while learning to walk or run is a bit like wearing earplugs while learning to sing.

If you do bring footwear, be prepared to carry it with you while running/walking barefoot (unless you want them stolen).

Price for Barefoot Todd’s Workshop and Fun Run

Still FREE! But we might not complain if you Donate. We suggest attending the event first, then, if you can afford, donate as much as you think the event was worth to you. No negative numbers please! In case you really hated Barefoot Todd’s Running Barefoot Workshop or Fun Run, and/or Barefoot Todd, then donate enough money so he can leave town! (comfortably)

  1. Todd, I RSVP’d I would be able to attend on the 20th… unfortunately I have been called out of town that weekend and will not be able to attend. Looking forward to the next one I’ll be able to make.
    Thanks,
    Jim

  2. Sorry to hear that, Jim. That is OK, though. We as barefooters will be here when you CAN attend. It is not like this is a movement which will just go away!

    All the best this week-end!

  6. That’s so awesome that you are doing these workshops! I am envious because I live in Phoenix and there are no workshops here! Haha so the jealous part of me is asking if you could please have a workshop in Phoenix/Scottsdale. 🙂 That would be amazing. Thanks!
